AACUL

hawaii aacul conferenceGreetings AACUL members! Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your Hawaii Adventure. I’ve enjoyed meeting you and learning more about your organization. Being a CU member for more than 35 years makes me a fan of the Credit Union Movement. There’s so much we can do together for our communities and I’m excited to watch your organization grow and thrive under new leadership.

I referred to many different websites and articles in my presentation. Here are links for some of those, as well as some others indicating the movement towards communities and collaborative capitalism. The sharing economy is here – it’s a good idea to get on board and remind the newer generations that you’ve been doing it for 150+ years.

Here’s a short clip from Cardiff, Wales on the idea of Collaboration and Cooperation on a local level.

The RBFCU website has a wonderful explanation of the history of the Credit Union Movement.

The public is weary of bankers they don’t trust, governments prying into their private lives, and big corporations getting away with things the average citizen would go to jail for. All organizations need to wake to this fact, and an organization like a Credit Union is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this mood. Because CU’s are member based and member run, there’s more of a sense of control… As this article states:

It’s the era of corporate responsibility. The internet has a memory like you wouldn’t believe, and consumers these days are giving their long-term dollars to the brands that make them feel good about themselves and the world they live in.Drew Hubbard, Marketing Writer for IMedia

Here are some of the Screenshots of comments answering the question:

Do you belong to a Credit Union, why or why not? (these are unedited and in their original format.) This was not a scientific study, and thus represents more the sentiment and voices “out there” in social media. However, the points they make are well taken and can easily be addressed by individual credit unions across the country.

As I said, I had a different talk in mind until the research kept moving me in this direction. It is my hope that CU’s can last well into the 22nd Century. They play an important part in every community.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like further information from my research.

Aloha,

Beth Terry, CSP
