Ok - so maybe this is a monthly newsletter. Actually I did hold back around Valentine's Day because we were all being hit with that new virus. In case you didn't get the news - your friends were NOT sending you viruses. Your favorite on-line newsletters were NOT sending you viruses. These clever miscreants have discovered how to "spoof" email "From" addresses to look like someone you might know. So if my newsletter has been put on your ISP's bad list, let them know that it is OK and you signed up for this newsletter.
Beth's Brain Food:
The Power of Exposure

They were sitting at my table railing at the traffic situation in Phoenix. The women thought that our department of transportation was failing badly and had a litany of anecdotes to prove it. Born and raised here, they clearly felt we were "going to hell in a hand basket." Unspoken, but understood by this interloper was the concern about the influx of new people like me clogging up the freeways.

I listened with amusement. I had moved from Hawaii, where some days one may as well walk the few miles to the airport rather than drive. Limited land and even more limited resources leave small aged roads limping through crowded residential areas. It had taken decades to build...

  News You can Use!
Think that cell phones are causing all the accidents? Think again, a Michigan Insurance Company recently released a list of the most dangerous activities we can do while driving - and the worst is - EATING. Here are the top 5 most dangerous foods you can eat while you are driving down that freeway:

5. Juicy Hamburgers
These can be drippy AND greasy. Consider that a $5 hamburger deluxe could turn into $500 worth of repairs if dripping condiments, special sauces, or greasy meat juices distract you while you're driving. Remember: "If it can drip, don't eat it while you drive."

4. Chili
And we don't mean just a bowl of chili. We mean anything containing chili--a chili dog, sloppy Joes, or a Coney dog. You have to look at food like this to eat it, so if you are looking at the food and not the road… well, you may get more than a mouthful of chili.

3. Tacos
Can you eat a taco at the table without spilling it? A good bump in the road or quick turn and your taco is scattered across floor, passenger seat and window. And what do you do? Turn around and look at it!

2. Hot Soups
Eating hot soup while driving is just plain dumb. Haggerty Insurance calls it the equivalent of a circus juggling act--a sure recipe for disaster. And the WORST food you can consume while driving is...

1. Coffee
It's hot. It spills. It makes a mess--and burns!--when it spills.

  Today's Chuckle
The Most Harmful Food

A Doctor was addressing a large audience in Tampa. "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it.

Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?"

After several seconds of quiet, a 75-year-old man in the front row raised his hand and said,

"Wedding cake."
