Dear Beth,

You deserve a short break. Take a deep breath, relax those shoulders, and enjoy this "Moment for You."

My girls loved to play seminar when they were little. I would bring home flip chart pages with strange and wonderful sayings on them, and they would try to figure out what I had meant when I wrote it.

Each girl would take up residence in a different room in the house and hold a class with their imaginary students.

Not only was this endlessly entertaining, it also gave us a glimpse into their recent school experiences.

I walked past one day and heard one of the girls admonishing her class, "FOCUS! FOCUS! Kimo, you are NOT paying attention!" She held a ruler straight up in front of her nose and said, "Right here. I want you to look RIGHT HERE!"

I wondered what had happened at school that day, and if the person being told to focus was, in fact, a little boy named Kimo... or if she had been the target of the lecture.

Now, when I find myself with too much to do, too many balls in the air, too many projects distracting me at once, I can hear clear as a bell, "FOCUS! Beth, FOCUS! Look RIGHT HERE!"

It works! I settle down, pick one thing to do at a time, and just get that done. I know I'm not Wonder Woman, so I can't do 6 things at once. I clear my desk and I LOOK RIGHT THERE.

Amazing how much you can get done when you remove the distractions and just FOCUS!

Take care,
Beth
I don't care how much power, brilliance or energy you have, if you don't harness it and focus it on a specific target, and hold it there you're never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants. ~Zig Ziglar

Now Beth's talking. Two leggeds could learn a few things from dogs about Focus.

We are so good at focusing that we can actually levitate food right out of a two-legged's hand into our mouths. Just watch us!

Here's how to hunker down and get what you want:
  • Be single minded. Know exactly what you want. That piece of chicken, for example.
  • Settle in and gather all your energy.
  • Bring on all the cute you can muster. If you don't have cute, go for soulful.
  • Take a deep breath and sit quietly.
  • Put all your energy into your eyes and stare at what you want.
  • Wait. Patience is a virtue.
  • Be the object of your desire. Be the chicken.
  • See the object of your desire right where you want it.
  • Believe you have a right to that piece of chicken.
  • And bingo! There it is! It's all very zen.

I want reports!!!
Hugs,
Xena
Beth,
I attended the NAWBO luncheon and really enjoyed listening to your words of wisdom on handling difficult people. It was priceless.
Thanks!
It's a good life.
