So, What Do you want?
Listen to this portion of the newsletter:

I asked her what she wanted out of life. This powerful, unshakable tower of strength suddenly looked like a twelve-year-old girl. "I don't have permission to want what I want."

I tilted my head, raised an eyebrow and eloquently replied, "Huh?"

"Well, people like you always say we should live up to our potential - and that includes knowing what we want. Problem is, what I want isn't OK with me. So I guess that is why I don't get what I want."

After much digging it turned out that what she wanted was to quit her job and start her own company. She felt she would be letting down her co-workers, the boss, and her customers if she quit. Meanwhile, she was miserable. She wasn't giving herself permission to do what would be best for her - and ultimately best for her customers.

First of all - don't ever give yourself too much credit. We will figure out a way to muddle through life without you around. Sorry about that. We do love you, and we humans are resilient. We can find ways to stay in touch if you leave your job and go elsewhere. Or not.

Second - when human beings listen to a higher calling and step out of their comfort zones, the rest of us benefit - your courage and your success can lift others up and provide valuable services. Be willing to step out of the "prison of your own ideas" and move up to a higher level of consciousness and service.

If you are miserable where you are, you are probably making the rest of us miserable. We have to put up with your unhappiness. Unhappy and insecure people are a serious drain on everyone around them. And worse, when you don't leave "because of us," you get to play martyr and we just feel bad.

Here's a new concept: Live up to who you are called to be. Write your goals and dreams even if you don't believe right now that you have a right to want them. Then, when you complete your list, put a little "opt-in" box at the bottom of the page. Review it regularly and consciously choose to check that box and opt in to your dreams. It may not happen right away. Some things take time. Some dreams need editing. Some ideas need to be expanded and explored. Believe that you have a right to be inspired and inspiring. Believe in your ability to move out of your rut and into a new way of being.

If you won't do it for you, do it for the rest of us. If Thomas Edison had kept his ideas to himself, the human race would be without over 1,000 inventions that we use daily and take for granted. If Marie Curie had kept her ideas to herself, we may never have heard of radium and may never have had the new ways of thinking about how we cure disease.

You don't need to be Marie Curie or Thomas Edison. You just need to be you. Find your highest and best path and pursue it.

It is time to look at your self-limiting beliefs and knock it off! How long do you think you have?

Take care of yourself!
The world needs healthy people - we need YOU healthy!
Beth

"We are all prisoners of ideas."
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)

"Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds."

   Letters
In April, Beth spoke to the Army Lodging Conference at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Here are some of the comments from that program:
  • "Ms Terry was a breath of fresh air."
  • "I can't wait to use her change model with my staff. Her five strategies on coping with stress will be another facet of her program I will be using."
  • "We will definitely be calling you again for our Managers. This was great!"
She also spoke to the Arizona Society of Women Accountants. Here are a few of their comments:
  • "I like the idea of taking a "non-smoking" break. That we all need to step away from our desks once in a while and regroup and recharge our batteries."
  • "Beth, you helped me realize I am not alone when I am overwhelmed. Thank you."
  • " liked the idea about taking 12 minutes out of the day to just stretch and relax. Your "carpal tunnel" exercises were really good and will help me get the blood moving and help me get out of overwhelm."

   Overwhelm Tip
Something you can do right now to get out of overwhelm…

(Each issue I am going to give you links to things that I think might help. Not all of these will be for everyone, but the web is becoming such an exciting place that exploring it is an absolute delight!)

Thanks to Dave Livingston (http://www.thingsworthsaving.com/) for this:

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 "wolves" inside us all.

"One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

"The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

   The "word" from XenaXena
Beth says she's putting me on a diet. I think some thing happened to my metab-oil-ism when I had my surgery last month. I don't eat oil, so I don't know how this happened, but she says I am getting "heavy" - I weigh 5 pounds. I was 4 pounds. Don't you wish you had a one-pound overweight problem?

It is always good to get going when a problem is a small one… so now we get up really early before it gets too hot and go for walks (I think Beth needs it too, so she is using us as an excuse.) I am not crazy about this - I want to sleep till noon. But we can't walk then, because it is 111 degrees by 2 pm in Phoenix now. Did I mention I am wearing a fur coat? And that my little legs are like "this" long?

Then Beth gets this bright idea to give me and Lezard a bath to cool us down - so she says. I think it was cuz I was helping her paint. I made my nails all white and maroon. So she bathed us. I HATE WATER! Wet fur... Oh joy. When my fur dried, I looked like a butterball. Now she really wants me on a diet. I only eat 3 tablespoons of food a day. What's she gonna do, cut me down to 2 tablespoons? It will take me three years to make it through my bag of dog food! I will give up a tablespoons a day if SHE will give up her dark chocolate M&M's! (And she doesn't share those, either!) Well, here I am after my bath. You be the judge.

Here's a good joke I told Lezard the other day, "My dog is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to 99 cents a can. That's almost $7.00 in dog money." Joe Weinstein
