Unstress about your Taxes and Bills!
Listen to this portion of the newsletter:
She had frizzy hair, a tie-dyed shawl, a gravelly east coast accent with an affected valley girl twist. She looked older than God and I wasn't really interested in her opinion on money. But I dutifully sat there with girlfriends who had dragged me protesting all the way. I even took notes.
Apparently, I am a packrat. Recently, I was cleaning out some boxes and came across those notes from the money workshop (above). I heard the ancient crone's voice across the decades,
"Say thank you when you pay your bills."
I got a little chill down my back.
Hey, it couldn't hurt.
So I started to practice gratitude.
"Thank you APS for the electricity that kept me warm last month and will keep me cool over the summer." "Thank you Phoenix Board of Water for supplying me with fresh, drinkable (sort of) water and trash collection services in the middle of the desert." "Thank you credit card companies for trusting me with instant loans every time my little heart desires something or the cupboard and bank account are bare simultaneously."
Now this one is a little harder because - well - I don't agree with some of the things governments do with my money… but, here goes: "Thank you Tax collectors for providing an easy way for us all to keep the infrastructure of our cities, states and country in place. Thank you for providing forms for us, for transferring the money into the designated coffers and making those street lights, paved roads, sewer systems, and all the other services possible and available."
As much as we love to grumble about our bills, the services provided by those bills make living in America pretty comfy. If you don't believe me, try traveling a bit. When you go to foreign countries and look inside some of the homes, you are grateful for our housing and construction standards. When you drive in Indonesia or Malaysia, with open sewers next to roadways that have "recommended paths" instead of lanes like we take for granted, you appreciate our traffic controls.
And, being grateful is just good for the heart. Sometimes we all need to just sit back and appreciate what we have. Take a good look around you. Every day find 10 things to be grateful for… and watch stress lift from your shoulders a little bit.
Take care of yourself,
We need you
And we need you healthy!
Beth

"Beth is outrageously hilarious because she speaks the truth that all of us know but are afraid to really admit.
She talks about personal responsibility - reminding therapists not to work with others when they are impaired - great reminder to leave the home stuff at home. Good energy. She is flippin' hilarious and riveting."

Overwhelm Tip

Something you can do right now to get out of overwhelm…
(Each issue I am going to give you links to things that I think might help. Not all of these will be for everyone, but the web is becoming such an exciting place that exploring it is an absolute delight!)
This month I have a LOT for you to enjoy!
- THE BIRTH OF A HUMMINGBIRD
(http://community-2.webtv.net/hotmail.com/verle33/HummingBirdNest)
This is truly amazing. Be sure to click on at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A woman found a hummingbird nest and took photos all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. It took 24 days from birth to flight.

Thanks to Rick Johnston from Keck Observatory for this:

Special Section
I had the breathtaking privilege of visiting the world famous Keck Observatory (http://www2.keck.hawaii.edu/) earlier this month. It perches at 14,000 feet atop Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii. I did workshops both at the base station and at the summit. The people of the Keck observatory were wonderful very watchful of my oxygen levels as I tried gamely to give my usually perky program at that elevation.
Here is a photo of me standing next to ONE of the 36 hexagons that make up the huge mirror used to peer into space.
Thanks again to Rick Johnston for the facts below, and to Tim Salonga for taking the photo and sharing it with me.
- Primary Mirror design: 36 hexagonal segments
- Diameter : 10 meters
- Each segment 1.8 meters
- Segment weight: 400 kilograms (880 pounds)
- Segment material: Zerodur (low expansion glass-ceramic)
- Light collecting area 76 square meters (818 ft2)
- Total Weight of glass 14.4 metric tons (15.9 tons)
- Dome: 101 feet high, 121 feet in diameter and 700 tons in weight
- Observatory elevation 4146 meters (13,603 feet)
- Location Mauna Kea, Hawaii or 19° 49' 35" North and 155° 28' 29" West

The "word" from Xena
|
Well, today is Beth's birthday.
She flew the coop! She got on an airplane and went to someplace called Kansas or Oz, I am not sure. She kept making jokes about "I don't think we are in our 40's anymore, Toto." I don't know who this Toto fellow is, but I hope she isn't seeing another dog behind my back! Anyway, we have a new red-haired, two-legged to keep tabs on while Beth is away. Her name is Kate and her head is waaaaaay up near the ceiling. She is what you call "way tall." I am only 6 inches high, so I get dizzy looking up at her.
All I know is she makes Beth happy because she does "seckaterry" work for her. I am not sure what that is. Now both of them sit and look at those square boxes and make tappity tappity noises all day long. Every once in awhile they get smart and take a few moments to notice how cute I am. She teaches it, but she forgets that petting dogs is good for your stress level. That is why I am here. Just a little gratitude-reminder in a fur coat…
Speaking of gratitude, many thanks to those of you that wrote "get well" notes to me after my little scare last month. Thanks! I'm all better now!
Click here to email me (Xena)! (You don't think humans are the only ones to get fan mail do you?)
Love, Xena (The real Chihuahua at Beth's house!)
PS - thanks for all the letters and pictures! I knew Beth's readers were smart people. You all have great looking four-leggeds living with you. That's why your life is going so well
