Managing Holiday Madness
Listen to this portion of the newsletter:
Can you remember what you received for the holidays in 1986? How about in 2002? No cheating now: can you remember what you gave last year, and to whom you gave it? If you had to list every gift you have given or received for the past 10 years, could you? Maybe there are those special, stellar moments… but for the most part, it all fades together.
Are the holidays REALLY about getting the "right" gifts for people? Are they REALLY about decorating "right," cooking the "right" foods, going to the "right" parties? Let's get some perspective before you go into Holiday Hyper Drive.
Think about holidays past: What brings warmth and joy to your heart? It probably isn't the food, the decorations or the gifts. It usually boils down to shared experiences with loved ones. It isn't what your child gave you, but the fact that your little one made something for you with their own hands. It isn't the way the house was decorated, but that you all decorated it together.
Think. What can you do less of? What can you do more of? How can you make this a season of joy and peace, instead of stress, overspending and over-extending?
Make two lists - the "should" list and the "I really want to" list. The first is your obligations, the second is for your soul.
Don't make decisions right now. Just keep the lists for the next few weeks and mull over these questions:
Why do I think this is important? Am I right? If yes, how can I do it simply?
What do I think will or won't happen if I do or don't show up (or give a gift)?
Am I doing this because it gives me joy, or because of perceived consequences?
Is there another option?
At the end of the day, will I feel better or worse for having done this?
Stay tuned, next time we'll have some time tested ideas and inspirations to make this year less stressful, more special, and full of Hope. The world needs healthy people. Let's work together to get healthier and enjoy the holidays peacefully.
A hui hou, Malama Pono,
Till next time, take care,
Beth

"Aloha Ms. Terry,
Joking and pidgin aside, this was one of the best class I attended in my life.
You have a lot of practice in the techniques used, making it interactive very enjoyable, informative & intuitive. Wrote as much notes that I could.
Yesterday I was so preoccupied with the storm I didn't get a chance to see what Ron Calpito was talking about the books and pamphlets for sale. Are they offered on the website?
THANK YOU, MUCH MAHALOS for the experience. I've seen that it is possible to keep everyone awake.
GOD Bless and be with you,"

Overwhelm Tip

|
Something you can do right now to get out of overwhelm…
(Each issue I am going to give you links to things that I think might help. Not all of these will be for everyone, but the web is becoming such an exciting place that exploring it is an absolute delight!)
- My colleague Bob Kelly is a wordsmith. He has magic in his fingers when he takes to the typewriter. His newsletter, The Kellygram, is a wonderful collection of the quotes he has compiled over decades. Click here to subscribe to his newsletter, or check out his web site!
- Moving to Phoenix was traumatic and very lonely. I was out of my element and out of sorts with myself. A friend referred me to Dr. Mark Force, and he helped me back on the road to recovery and better health. I am happy to share his website and e-newsletter with you. The Elements of Health newsletter contains information and new developments in healthcare and self care along with related resources, how-to articles, and inspirational stories. The "word" from Xena
|
"Hey, two leggeds, Holidays are tough on your little fur-covered angels. We get very, very confused. You bring trees into the house and get mad when we think you did it for us because it is too cold to go outside! You put all those wonderful paper-wrapped playthings on the floor and get mad when we play with them like we play with our toys. You bring plenty of two-leggeds into the house with lots of great smelling food and put our tails and our tummies at risk.
Don't forget that we like routine. We need our sleep, and we will eat anything, absolutely ANYTHING that drops on the floor.
And if you are wondering what to 'get' us for the holidays. Here is my list:
- My regular food. Fancy stuff hurts my tummy
- Clear, fresh water in a clean bowl all day long
- Play with me
- Hold me
- Talk to me, I love your voice
- Wash my blankets and my duck once in awhile
That's it! See - you should spend all your time with us. We're easy. We're low-cost, and we're cute."
Click here to email me (Xena)! (You don't think humans are the only ones to get fan mail do you?)
Xena (The real Chihuahua at Beth's house!)
PS - thanks for all the letters and pictures! I knew Beth's readers were smart people. You all have great looking four-leggeds living with you. That's why your life is going so well
