Seven Steps to Getting Out of Overwhelm
This week: Step One
First - sit back in your chair for a moment. Will the world end tomorrow afternoon at 2pm if you don't get everything handled RIGHT NOW!? Take a deep breath and think this through. We get into overwhelm because our brain is muddled and cluttered. We lose perspective and actually believe --- BELIEVE - that we are far more important in the grand scheme of things than we are.
So, B r e a t h e.
For the next 7 issues, I am going to help you re-arrange the furniture in your head. A little at a time, I am going to help you reupholster old notions that have gotten you into this mess. Together, you and I will make this world a little more peaceful, one person at a time. Does that work for you?
Good, here we go - Step One: For the next two weeks… Pay attention to your breathing. That's all. Every time you feel tense, stop for a second and make sure you are breathing deeply. Put a little post-it note somewhere on your computer, desk or phone that says "B R E A T H E!" Remind yourself to stop, take at least three deep full breaths and relax your shoulders. You will feel a little sanity come back. Yes, you are important in this company, in this life, in your relationships. But just remind yourself that it will all get taken care of eventually. Then get on with your work and your life
Next Time, Step 2 will take you on a tour through that cluttered living space in your head.

"Hi Beth - Yes, my sister enjoyed your book immensely! It's weird- after starting to read your book, it changed my dreams that very night, and she said her dreams changed as well! I'm not sure if anyone else has told you this, but I just find it amazing that even reading just a few pages can do that!
I know I always enjoy your seminars, and I hope to be attending another one sometime in the future. Hope all is well with you, too! Thank you again." "C.E., Honolulu, HI"

Overwhelm Tip
|
|
Something you can do right now to get out of overwhelm…
(Each issue I am going to give you links to things that I think might help. Not all of these will be for everyone, but the web is becoming such an exciting place that exploring it is an absolute delight!)
I don't know about you, but the amount of time I need to spend reading was making me crazy (overwhelm?). I took the Evelyn Wood Reading course and tripled my reading speed in a very short time. The course was expensive and after I took it, there wasn't any way to review it.
The Readers Edge has created a speed-reading course on a CD Rom that your whole family can use for 1/7 the cost of what I paid for Evelyn's course. You can go back again and again to review Readers Edge as many times as you wish. It works for children, and us ol' folks too. Check it out!

"Hi, I'm Beth's gorgeous, long-haired Chihuahua. She said I just lay around, so now I have to write a column in her newsletter.
I don't know what's up with you humans. You think you are overwhelmed? Try being a DWD (dog with a disability) - actually all pets are either DWD, CWD (cat with disability), FWD (Fish with disability) - you get the picture. Ya know why? We don't have opposable thumbs! YOU try to sneak into the treat box without a thumb. THAT's Overwhelm!
BTW, Beth said she will take more pictures of me helping her get out of Overwhelm (I am the brains of the outfit, after all). Stay Tuned!"
